Calling all amateur detectives! West Falmouth Library invites you to help solve the murder mystery “The Stiff in the Stacks,” by local resident, Lisa Jo Rudy. The murder mystery, full of intrigue and entertainment will be staged on Saturday, March 12 and a second show will be offered on Sunday, March 13 with doors opening at 7 PM for refreshments around the fireplace, followed by the play beginning promptly at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $25 and advanced reservations and tickets purchased by March 11 required as seating is limited; to reserve a spot call 508-548-4709 or stop by the library.
The plot, set in 1910 at a formal gala library event, is peppered with red herrings and unexpected twists to keep even the sharpest amateur detectives guessing. Of course, it’s a dark and stormy night. The waters are rising, flooding the causeway that separates Shorewood Island and the library from the mainland. And while all may seem well on the surface, members of the library board have murder on their minds! The play will be presented in two acts, and light fare and beverages will be available. Attendees will be part of the mystery theatre as the guests at the gala event and are asked to attend in formal dress attire, of the Edwardian times of 1910, which could be top hats, formal suits, gala formal gowns, and white gloves. If you have watched the early episodes of Downton Abbey, that is the style we’re aiming for.
Local residents, many of who have participated in the library’s past murder mystery events, and others who have performed in local theatrical productions will portray the roles. The event promises to be a fun way to chase away the winter blues and raise funds for library programming.
