The October Calliope Poetry Reading will be staged on Sunday, October 19 from 3 – 5 PM. Featured poets include Nancy Esposito, David Surette and Kim Triedman. There is a $5 suggested donation to fund the poets’ stipend, and refreshments will be served. Open mic sign-up begins at 2:45pm. Books will be available for purchase.
Nancy Esposito’s most recent book is Lamentation with June Bug (Word Poetry, 2103). Previous collections include Changing Hands and Mem’Rain. She received the Discovery/The Nation Award, a Massachusetts Arts Lottery Grant, the Colladay Award, Poetry Society of America Award, a Fulbright Grant to Egypt, and grants to Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, and Laos, as well as an NEH to study the Vietnam War. Her own work has been translated into Spanish and Vietnamese.
David Surette’s new book of poetry is titled Wicked Hard. He is also the author of The Immaculate Conception Mothers’ Club, Young Gentlemen’s School, and Easy to Keep, Hard to Keep In, which earned Highly Recommended status at the 8th Annual Massachusetts Book Awards. He teaches English and coaches varsity hockey at East Bridgewater High School.
Kim Triedman is both a poet and novelist. In 2013, her poetry collections Plum(b) (Main Street Rag Poetry Prize) and Hadestown and her debut novel The Other Room were published. Other publications include a chapbook, Bathe in it or Sleep (2008, Main Street Rag) and Poets for Haiti: An Anthology of Poetry and Art. Kim is a graduate of Brown University and lives in the Boston area.
