Internet Policy 3/30/06
The West Falmouth Library endeavors to develop collections, resources, and services that meet the cultural,
informational, educational, and recreational needs of West Falmouth’s diverse community. Therefore, the
library provides access to the Internet via a wireless network. The library is not responsible for loss of
information or theft of information when using library or personal computers over the wireless network.
The West Falmouth Library does not monitor and has no control over the information accessed through the
Internet and cannot be held responsible for its content. As with other library materials, supervision and
restriction of a child’s access to the Internet is the responsibility of the parent or legal guardian.
Acceptable Use of Internet and Computer Workstations and Laptops:
Rules and Guidelines
Individuals wishing to use the Internet and computers must agree to adhere to the West Falmouth Library
Internet Policies above, and the following Acceptable Use Rules.
1. Users must sign in for each session: Date, time on and off, and first name (this information is used for
statistic purposes only).
2. The Internet workstation must be used in a responsible manner, respecting the rights of others, and exercising
care and caution when using the equipment.
3. The downloading of files or software is not permitted on any library computer.
4. The computers may not be used for illegal activity or to place any material on the Internet related to criminal
activity, or to engage in any activity, which is deliberately and maliciously offensive, libelous or slanderous.
Illegal activity involving library resources may be subject to prosecution by local, state or federal officials.
5. Do not display on screens and or send to the printer any materials which may be objectionable.
6. Please be aware that some material on the Internet and World Wide Web is copyrighted. It is your
responsibility to be aware of and respect notices of copyrighted information and to respect the copyright laws of
the United States.
7. Users assume full liability, legal, financial, or otherwise for their actions.
8. Misuse of the computer or Internet access will result in loss of your library privileges. The Library reserves
the right to terminate an Internet session at any time.
9. There is no time limit, however if someone is waiting, the user will be alerted that they must sign off within
the next 15 minutes.
10. Copies printed from the computer are charged at a fee of 10 cents per page.
11. Children 12 years of age and younger, must be supervised by a parent at all times when using the Internet
and library computers.
