Scholarships

The West Falmouth Library awards two scholarships to high school seniors every year through the Arthur F. Hennessey Jr. Memorial Fund and the Colonial Scholarship Fund. Applications are reviewed by a selection committee.

Applications are due Monday, April 8, 2024 and can be found online below.

The Arthur F. Hennessey, Jr. Scholarship

This scholarship honors the memory of Arthur F. Hennessey, Jr. who gave his life in Vietnam on April 19, 1965. Born in West Falmouth, he treasured the sense of community and goodwill he found here. In tribute, this $3000 scholarship is awarded to a West Falmouth resident or someone with strong ties to the who meets the following criteria:

  • Resides in West Falmouth or can demonstrate strong ties to the community of West Falmouth
  • Demonstrates academic excellence, participation in school and community activities, and financial need

Colonial Scholarship

The Colonial Dames of the National Society of America (NSCDA) is an organization that actively promotes our national heritage through historic preservation, patriotic service and educational projects. Designed to ease the costs of higher education, this $2,500 scholarship will be offered to one high school senior who meets the following criteria:

  • Resides in Falmouth, East Falmouth, North Falmouth, West Falmouth or Woods Hole
  • Demonstrates academic excellence, participation in school and community activities, and financial need

Hennessey & Colonial Scholarship Application Checklist

◯ 2024 scholarship application (submitted online)
◯ Resume including awards, work experience, and extracurricular activities
◯ High school transcript including standardized test scores
◯ Two recommendations: One from your guidance counselor and the second from a person of your choice i.e. teacher, coach, or employer. Recommendations with a conflict of interest will not be accepted, such as a reference from anyone who is on the Board of West Falmouth Library, works at the West Falmouth Library or who is directly involved in the scholarship process. ALL recommendations must be emailed to wfl.scholarship@gmail.com by April 8th.

Emailing requirements – In the subject line include your last name, what you are emailing (resume, transcript or recommendation), and Hennessey.

Hennessey & Colonial Scholarship Deadline

The 2024 scholarship application, resume, high school transcript and two recommendations must be received by Monday, April 8, 2024. Late submissions or incomplete applications will not be considered.
