Dear fellow artists,
Three weeks from today the West Falmouth Library Art Fundraiser and Community Art Show begins.
As an artist who has shown at the library for over 20 years, I want to highlight some exciting changes to how the show will operate this year. I know change can be hard – but c’mon – we’re artists – we thrive on trying new things (how many new types of supplies have you bought through the years thinking “maybe I’ll try that instead of what I usually do!”?)
Here is the plan, along with important dates:
- All entries are to be submitted online, please, by August 3 – just 12 days from today. No more standing in line with those little triplicate submission forms (yay! I did so tire of writing my name and address multiple times, didn’t you?) Please note: if online registration is a barrier to your participation, you may register in person Saturdays during regular library hours ( 10AM -1PM) ask for Perry C. Please contact events@westfalmouthlibrary.org if you require an alternative date and time prior to the August 11 receiving day.
- In person receiving day will be Monday, August 11 from 10am-5pm. Repeating – you must register in advance, online, by August 3. August 11 is for receiving of previously submitted art only.
- The show will ‘open’ on Tuesday, August 12 via online silent auction.
- The online auction will end with the in-person Opening Reception on Wednesday, August 13 from 5-7pm. (Did you catch that – it’s a Wednesday night this year, not Friday – less competition with all of the weekend events vying for our time.)
- A ‘Closing Coffee’ event will take place on Saturday morning, August 23 from 10am-noon. A brand new event – another opportunity to sip and chat (and sell) among the paintings.
- Given the limited space available for hanging and showing the artwork properly, there is a limit of one framed (or gallery wrapped or 3D) piece per artist. Should your framed piece sell before August 23 you will have the option of submitting another similar sized piece, at no additional cost. Entry fee: $15
- In addition to the one hanging piece, you may also submit up to 10 pieces of flat, matted works to go into the print racks. Entry fee: $10 for up to ten pieces total
Commissions: The West Falmouth library will retain the standard 40% commission of the list price; artists will receive 60% of the list price, with the library retaining 100% of the balance of any successful action bid beyond the list price.
Please remember that this show is a significant fundraiser event for the library. This, at least for me, is why I participate each year – to help support our little treasure here in the village of West Falmouth. Please consider also donating a piece (or two!) for which 100% of the proceeds will benefit the library.

Hope to see you on Wednesday, August 13 at the opening reception!
Respectully,
