International Book Group – Ali & Nino: A Love Story by Kurban Said

The International Book Group at West Falmouth Library is a volunteer-led group that meets on the first Wednesday of each month 3:45-5 p.m. Selections have either foreign settings or foreign authors, usually both. New members are always welcome! Annual registration is requested to receive important communications about schedule or location changes; register below. Meetings are both in-person and on Zoom.

The Wednesday, December 2 meeting will discuss Ali & Nino: A Love Story by Kurban Said. From the author of The Girl from the Golden Horn, a novel of the enduring love between childhood friends divided by war & their separate cultures. First published in Vienna in 1937, this classic story of romance and adventure has been compared to Dr. Zhivago and Romeo and Juliet. Ali and Nino is Kurban Said’s masterpiece. It is a captivating novel as evocative of the exotic desert landscape as it is of the passion between two people pulled apart by culture, religion, and war.
