Song Circle

Welcome to Song Circle! This friendly, supportive group of musicians gathers at 6:30pm in the West Falmouth Library Community Room on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month. Over the course of each two to three hour session, participants perform three or four songs.

Most performances are self-accompanied vocals (guitar, mandolin, ukulele, fiddle, etc.), some are a cappella, some instrumental, and all must be acoustic (without amplification). A wonderful piano is available in the room as well. Skill levels from beginner to professional are welcome and equally appreciated. A minimum $5.00 donation to the library is requested for each attendee.

Circle attendees provide an attentive, knowledgeable and distraction-free audience for the performances of their fellow musicians.

Notes for Participants:
Many performers invite the audience to sing along, take solos or jam with them. Other performers find it difficult to do their best when someone else sings or plays over them – so we respectfully request participants only sing or play their instruments when invited to do so by the performer.

Suggestions for avoiding distractions:

• Unless specifically invited by the performer, try to avoid playing (or noodling on) your instrument while they perform–even if you know the song.
• If you are not familiar with the song being performed, it’s best if you don’t attempt to play along or improvise.
• An accomplished harmony or tasteful lick during breaks between verses or lines might be appreciated if done well.

Suggestions for maximizing available performance time:

• Have your instrument in tune before your turn arrives.
• Keep introductory comments and chatting to a minimum and avoid long songs.
• If you have a song with many verses, leave off a few.
• While conversations between songs can be fun, lively and informative, participants should be mindful that chatting reduces performance time.
• If you have spent or intend to spend more than five minutes on your turn, offer to skip your turn in another round.
